About Lirsa

Lirsa is an interdisciplinary research laboratory in action-oriented sciences. The laboratory is part of the National conservatory of arts and crafts (Le Cnam) and is located in the heart of Paris. It covers a broad spectrum of research subjects and methodologies about organized, purposeful and evaluated action.

Lirsa was created in 2011 and stems from the gathering of several research centers in management, accounting and economics, which were created earlier at Le Cnam beginning in the 1940s. The laboratory also includes law studies and other fields of research that contribute to the understanding of public and private organizations.

The laboratory comprises about 120 researchers and 90 PhD students, and is structured around three research teams:

  • Management control
  • Public policies: economics and management
  • Strategy, foresight, innovation and development

Research teams

Management control

Management control is a research team of Lirsa that brings together lecturers and researchers in accounting, control and audit, and in human resources and law. Their works bear a common interest for the interactions between governance and performance of public and private organizations. Their works are discussed at a monthly seminar, where external researchers are also frequently invited.

Public policies: economics and management

Public policies: economics and management is a research team of Lirsa that brings together lecturers and researchers in economics, finance and public management. They all have a common interest for public policy design and evaluation. Their research topics include labour issues, health economics and financial regulation, with various methodological approaches such as econometrics, behavioural studies or theoretical approaches.

Strategy, foresight, innovation and development

Strategy, foresight, innovation and development is a research team of Lirsa that brings together lecturers and researchers in management sciences and geography. The team promotes an interdisciplinary perspective on the study of organizations and regional development, with a focus on innovation and change management, strategy and decision-making in organizations, and regional development dynamics. The team's ongoing research is presented in a seminar held on a monthly basis.

Interdisciplinary center

The Employment and Labour Research Centre (Centre d’Etudes de l’Emploi et du Travail, CEET) is an interdisciplinary project related to three research units at Le Cnam, including Lirsa. It aims at developing pluridisciplinary research on labour and employment issues. Its research topics include employment and labour market policies, inequalities in the labour market (gender, origin…), life course trajectories and organizational change in relationship with technology.
